Trail Length: 2.3 (Miles) with one loop.


Pathway Directions to Trailhead: Trailhead located at Gene's Pond SF Campground.

From Felch, drive west on M-69 about 1/2 mile to County Road 581. Turn right (north) and proceed about 5 miles to the “Public Access” sign. Turn left (west) and go about one mile to the parking area. Or, drive one mile farther north on County Road 581. From 581, turn left (west) on Leeman Road (County Road 422) and follow the sign sot Gene’s Pond State Forest Campground.

Camping fee per night - $10.00


Phone number indicated above is for the Management Unit. Sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No reservations. 14 sites for tent or small trailer use located on Gene's Pond. Hiking pathway access at campground. Rustic campground includes vault toilets and potable water from well hand pump.

Gene's Pond wetland area is home to ducks, geese, loons, cormorants, great blue heron, bald eagles, osprey, and more.

Hardwood Impoundment (16 miles SE) is a wetland area which offers opportunity to view mallards, Canada geese, grebes, wood ducks, belted kingfishers, bald eagles, deer, raccoons, and wild turkeys.


Gene's Pond (on site): Walleye, Bass, and Panfish.
Pickerel Lake (3 miles NE): Panfish.


Gene's Pond Pathway (on site): 2.3 miles of rolling terrain.

Mountain Biking

Boating Access Site/Launch - Access for boating and fishing.

Ramp access on site and at north end of Pickerel Lake.
